Rachel usually sleeps great in the car. This morning, she only slept the first hour of our 2.5-hour journey, and she was discontent the rest of the trip. It was so nice to have my cousin along, because she graciously moved to the back seat to help keep Rachel entertained. I felt sorry that she had to stay strapped into her carseat for so long, when she really wanted to be crawling around and playing.
The ride home was uneventful. Rachel slept 45 minutes, then stayed awake for an hour. She was quiet and still, though, and eventually drifted back into sleep once the sun went down. She woke up when we got home, but had no trouble making the move to her crib and falling back into slumber. Having Cousin Andrea along today made the trip short and enjoyable.
Rachel is named after two special women: my [paternal] Grandma Rachel and [maternal] Grandma Mae. Grandma Rachel passed away when I was 14, but I feel so blessed that my little Rachel Mae is able to know Grandma Mae. She even has blue eyes like Grandma Mae!

cute moment
Grandma Mae commented several times today that Rachel was not being a "lap baby" today, that she just wants to be able to move around and explore. Rachel was extremely wiggly every time GreatGrandma tried to hold her. Consequently, GreatGrandma taught Rachel a new trick:
non-toy toy of the day
Cousin Andrea drinks Diet SunDrop when she travels. Her empty Diet SunDrop bottle was Rachel's favorite travel non-toy.
